Yo, fellow Splat R Ball gunslingers! Welcome to another insightful blog.

As an experienced player, I know the importance of a fully charged Splat R Ball gun that gives me hours of fun playing with my friends. There is nothing as terrible as leaving with a drained-out gun from the middle of a battlefield while your buddies are still in the game.

If you have recently got your first splat gun, you might be trying to find proper charging instructions that you should follow. This was also exactly my thought when I bought my first Splat R Ball SRB1200 some years ago- I was confused about the charging process, ideal duration, and indicators after completion. But not anymore!

Well, after using Splat R Ball guns for more than a year and testing them under different conditions, I understand all these matters very well now and am very excited to share my findings with you.

So, let’s begin!

Splat R Ball Gun Charging Instructions

What Type Of Battery Is Present Inside Splat R Ball Gun?

All Splat R Ball guns use a rechargeable 7.4v Lithium-ion battery, very similar to batteries used in various other toys and household gadgets. While Splat R Ball SRB1200, SRB400, and SRB400-SUB have a battery capacity of 1800 mAh, SRB375 MINI has 500 mAh– enough to keep the toys operational for hours and shoot at long distances with high capacity. Just like Splat R Ball guns, gel blasters and Orbeez guns also come with similar battery capacities.

While Li-ion batteries are the best choice for Splat R Ball guns, I recommend avoiding LiPo and NiMH batteries, which require more attention and can explode if not handled with proper care. This is why almost all splatter ball gun manufacturers also use Li-ion batteries.

Here is a table to make you understand the shooting capacity of a Splat R Ball Gun battery.

How To Charge Your Splat R Gun Battery? A Step-By-Step Guide

Charging a Splat R ball gun can sometimes be a little tricky, depending on its design. While modern splat guns can be charged by plugging in a USB cable to the port, some older models require the removal of the battery from the compartment and refitting after the completion of the process. So, I am writing two separate sections for each of these scenarios.

A. Standard Charging Instructions For New Splat R Ball Guns

CHECK THE BATTERY: Before charging, make sure that the battery is completely depleted. Attempting to charge a partially depleted battery can cause internal damage, shortening its lifespan.

LOCATE THE CHARGING PORT: The charging port of your Splat R Ball gun is typically located near the battery compartment at the bottom of the handle. It is a small opening where the charger cable can be plugged in.

POWER UP THE CHARGER: Plug the charger into a power source and connect its other end to the charging port on the Splat R Gun, being careful to ensure a secure connection. Turn the splat gun off before beginning the charging process. This will ensure that the battery is not being used while it is charging, which can cause the charging process to take longer.

MONITOR THE CHARGING PROGRESS: The battery light will typically flash when charging and will remain solid when fully charged. I have explained those indicators in detail later in this article.

UNPLUG THE CHARGER: Once the battery is fully charged, unplugging the charger from both the power source and the splat gun is important. Leaving the charger connected for too long can cause damage to the battery.

TURN ON THE SPLAT GUN: Finally, turn the Splat R Gun back on to check the battery level. It should show that the battery is fully charged and ready to use.

B. The Charging Process By Removing The Battery (Old Models)

LOCATE THE BATTERY COMPARTMENT: This is usually located on the back or underneath the gun. Now, please remove the battery cover by sliding it off or unscrewing it. Some models may require a screwdriver to remove the cover. After that, take out the battery from the compartment carefully.

ENSURE CHARGER COMPATIBILITY: Make sure the charger you are about to use is compatible with the battery type of your Splat R Ball gun. After confirmation, plug the charger into an electrical outlet.

CONNECT THE BATTERY TO A CHARGER: Next, connect the charger’s alligator clips or probes to the battery terminals. Remember that the red clip goes to the positive (+) terminal and the black one to the negative (-) terminal.

TURN ON POWER: Now, wait for the battery to charge. The time it takes for a battery to charge depends on its capacity and the charging speed of the charger. Some chargers may have an indicator light that turns on when the battery is fully charged.

DISCONNECT ELECTRICAL WIRINGS: Once the battery is fully charged, remove the charger from the electrical outlet and disconnect the alligator clips or probes from the battery terminals.

REASSEMBLE THE BATTERY: Now, place the battery back into your Splat R Ball gun’s battery compartment carefully, ensuring the positive and negative terminals are aligned with the corresponding contacts inside the compartment. Finally, put the battery cover back on and secure it by sliding it on or screwing it back in place.

And that’s it! Your Splat R Ball gun’s battery should now be fully charged and ready for use.

Can You Charge Your Splat R Ball Gun Without A Charger?

If your charger is lost or damaged and you are looking for ways to charge your Splat R Ball Gun without a charger, it is possible, depending on your gun’s design and facility. As mentioned above, most modern Splat R Guns have a USB-charging facility, that can be used to power up the device.

If you have the cable but lost the adaptor, you can easily connect it to your smartphone charging adaptor or computer to recharge your toy gun. But if you do not have the cable, you must get a new one from the store to keep your splat gun functional. Earlier, such charger cables were not widely available, but you can now get them online at around $10-20.

Here are my three favorite cable-charger-battery accessories for Splat R Ball guns available on Amazon.

How Long Does It Take To Charge The Splat Gun?

The charging time for Splat R ball guns varies from model to model due to the difference in electric power capacity and storing voltage. It is also dependent on the power supplied by the charger adaptor. The time required to charge an 1800 mAh battery would be much more than the time required to charge a 500 mAh battery.

In general, the charging time of a splat gun battery can be calculated by using the following formula:

Charging time (hours) = Rated capacity (Watt-hours) / power supplied (Watts)

By following this formula, theoretically, we can easily calculate the approximate charging time of 500, 1200, and 1800 mAh batteries to be 1.1 hours, 2.6 hours, and 4 hours if the same charger is used for all of them.

However, practically, the same charger cannot be used for all of those Splat R Ball batteries because their charge-holding capacities are different. Still, as I experienced, it usually takes 3-4 hours to charge all splatter ball guns completely.

Splat R Ball gun charging indicators

How To Tell If Your Splat R Ball Gun Is Charging?

It’s quite easy to tell when your splat gun is charging. The charger of these toy guns usually has two LEDs- one red and another green. While the red LED indicates that the charger is connected to the power source, the green LED denotes the charging process.

When you connect your Splat R Gun battery to the charger, you will notice that the red LED is glowing solid, and the green LED is blinking side-by-side until it is fully charged. I have noticed this phenomenon same for most Splat R Ball guns- SRB1200, SRB400, and SRB400-SUB.

However, some unofficial (not marketed by Splat R Ball) chargers have a red LED that turns on and stays solid in no-load condition. But, when a battery is connected, the LED turns green and starts blinking. Although the light isn’t always green or red, some chargers may also have yellow or other colors for the indicator. In my experience, one thing is common for all: THE LIGHT BLINKS DURING THE PROCESS.

How to Know When Your Splat Gun Battery Is Fully Charged?

Although the indication might vary, you can easily tell when your splatter gun is fully charged. There’ll usually be a steady indicator light (usually in red or green color) to indicate when the battery is full and ready to use.

In most Splat R Ball guns, the green blinking light changes to solid when the charge is complete while the red LED is still glowing. On the others, the red blinking light switches to solid green. But in all these conditions, the indicator light turns solid and steady and no longer blinks.

Is The Charging Process Different For Gel Blaster & Orbeez Guns?

While Splat R Ball guns require this specific type of cable with a socket, most gel blasters and Orbeez guns come with type-C or Micro-USB cables, commonly available for charging electrical gadgets like your smartphone. So, you do not need to remove the battery and make any special arrangements for charging purposes- the process is easy-breezy!

Regarding battery capacity, power, and charging time, all Splat R Ball guns and gel blasters have a similar range that slightly varies from model to model.

How Long Do Splatter Gun Batteries Last?

This is an important factor to consider when choosing your splat gun. The longer its battery lasts per charge, the more fun you can have before plugging in the charger again. It depends largely on the battery capacity – the more charge it can hold, the longer you can play. Of course, the number of shots you fire per hour is also important.

Generally, you may use a fully-charged Splat R Ball gun for at least 2-4 hours per charge. Many gel guns even last four to five hours, which I believe should be more than enough. On average, most of these guns can shoot up to around 5,000 pellets per charge.

Best Practices For Charging Splat Ball Guns

Before I end this article, let’s check out some of the best practices for charging Splat R Ball guns. Just like with any other toy that uses a rechargeable battery, it’s necessary to take proper care of the battery.

Do not charge your splat gun battery for longer than five hours. Otherwise, it can cause damage to both the battery and the Splat R Gun, so make sure to disconnect the charger once the battery is fully charged. Although these batteries usually have a mechanism to prevent overcharging, it’s better not to take the risk. Overcharging your gel blaster battery can make it leak, split the cells, or even cause a fire.

Additionally, never attempt to charge a damaged or swollen battery, as it can be dangerous.

When attaching the battery’s wires to the charger’s connector, make sure to grip the clips properly. Do not pull the wires – you may end up damaging them.

Regularly check for frayed wires. Unfortunately, you will have to dispose of the battery and get a new one if you find any. You should never use or charge a Splat R Ball battery if the wires are frayed.

I highly recommend keeping the battery inside a fire-resistant pouch like this one, to maintain the utmost safety in the process.
